The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus: Help please...?

A friend and I went to see the new movie The Imaginarium or Doctor Parnassus the other day. It was good and I really enjoyed it, but I think I would have enjoyed it more if I had understood what the friggin heck was going on.

The first part was fine, but after they found George (Tony) it began to get more and more confusing. Here are some things I would like to know about:

1. What is the purpose of the golden tube/whistle thing Tony swallows before he gets hanged?

2. Why does Tony keep changing faces when he goes through the mirror? (Now, I know Heath Ledger died part way through filming the movie and that is partially why, but they found a way to make the changing of his face fit into the movie but I don't know exactly how it fitted in, i.e. It was not just meant to go unnoticed that the actor had changed, the changes were made to fit in with the script)

3. What was the bad thing that Tony had done and why do people want to kill him? I did not really understand the whole 'charity' scene near the end of the movie.

4. What is the purpose of the jingly bangel around Valentina's ankle? (huhu...it's jingly...)

5. When Valentina meets the Devil there are two doors, one marked His and one marked Hers (I'm asuming these are doors to Heaven and Hell judging by the decoration of the doors). Why does she go through the door to Hell and doesn't end up in Hell, but in a new life- The one she wanted (the end scene where she and Anton are together with a child)?

6. What is being 'purified'?

So, yeah, I didn't really 'get' it. Please answer if you did infact 'get' it. And if anyone has a fully explained synopsis, that would be much appreciated.

1. It's a hard tube, when they hang Tony, if he has the tube on his throat he can breath beacause he doesn't have the throat closed.

2. He changes faces because it's the perfect world of the woman who came in before him, so Tony change to the %26quot;perfect men%26quot; for this women, in fact all the times they say that he is %26quot;just how I imaginated you%26quot;... the perfect men for them

3. Tony said he was involved in a money cheat but finally Tony sold children's organs to other countries. He didn't save them, he killed them to sell their organs.

4. It's just a gift of his father, nothing mystic, it's just important for the end, when a women have this jingly bagel Parnassus knows she's his daughter.

5. My only question is why the doors say: %26quot;Hers%26quot; and %26quot;His%26quot;, but she doesn't get free going through %26quot;hers%26quot;, she got free because of her father's sacrifice, that's why later the devil doesn't know where is she. Parnassus got her free sacrifing himself for her freedom.

6. I don't understand what do you mean, sorry

I wish I helped you ;)

The deal with the anklet with the bells on it is to keep her from running away (the bells make noise). Valentina makes reference to this fact twice, once with Anton on top of their house/bus/theatre and again in the imaginarium.

%26amp; the purified bit is that the imaginarium appeals to your weaknesses (ie drinking, sex etc) it shows you your weaknesses %26amp; then it makes you choose between giving into temptation or climbing the stairs. If you climb you come out %26quot;purified%26quot;, if you give in your soul goes to Mr Nick (the devil).

Thank-you very much for your help! (both) ^.^

Actually the purified bit was just a hustle of Tony's to rob the lady of her material possessions. Valentina gets away at the end because she did end up in hell. The devil told Dr. Parnassus he'd been after Tony's soul a long time and if Parnassus kills him he would give him his daughter back
